PTP advocates for systemic change
Our work aims for system-wide impact and greater client empowerment and agency. Yet literacy, unemployment and poverty are barriers for many of PTP’s participants, our most important stakeholders. Connecting workplace literacy with real-world engagement empowers individuals to have a direct impact on the issues that matter most to them. For staff and Board members, participating in this kind of advocacy advances our vision of “empowering people to learn and find work they value”.
Our advocacy work is currently focused on the following issues:
- Decent Work / Living Wage
- Affordable Transit / Fair Fare
- Affordable Housing
- Food Security
- Health and Wellness
We actively support the following organizations, who like us are striving for broader societal impact:
- Social Planning Toronto
- Community Literacy of Ontario
- ABC Life Literacy
- Metro Toronto Movement for Literacy
- ONESTEP – Ontario Network of Employment and Training Providers
- The Ontario Not for Profit Network (Decent Work initiatives)
- TTC Riders – a non-profit focused on advocacy for fare and affordable public transit
- FoodShare – Pioneers and champions of food justice initiatives
- Fred Victor – Working to end homelessness (often we have clients living in the shelter system)
- Toronto Community Benefits Network – A community-labour partnership
- First Work
- Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants: OCASI
