Prepare to look after children in a child care job or in working your own home. Know how to meet their daily needs, keep them safe, and help them learn.
What you’ll be able to do
Know the rules for child care
Understand the rules in Ontario, including how many children you can look after and how to safely take care of them. Learn your rights and responsibilities when working in homes and other child care settings.
Keep children safe
Spot dangers and know what to do in an emergency. Learn when and how to report concerns about a child’s safety.
Help children learn through play
Understand how children’s needs change as they grow. Help them build skills through play and guide their behaviour in positive ways.
Build healthy daily routines
Take care of children in a safe and healthy way. Learn about allergies, nutrition and food safety, and ways to stop illness from spreading.
Work with families
Speak and listen with children, parents and co-workers. Understand families and parenting styles from different cultures.

- In person at 815 Danforth Avenue, Toronto
Who can take part
This program is open to newcomers with a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 5 or higher. Eligible newcomers include:
- Permanent Residents
- Convention Refugees
- Protected Persons
- Live-In Caregivers
- Palestinians from Gaza (MOME2023)
