SUCCESS

Bringing down barriers to
long-term,
life-changing
employment

A MESSAGE FROM
BARBARA AND LAUREN

Rewarding, reliable work can be transformational, helping people enjoy independence and a brighter future. That's why sustained employment that's accessible to all has always been one of our leading goals.

In 2020, we’ll work harder than ever to reach that goal, empowering more people to break through barriers to fulfilling work by continuing to:

Expand our reach across the country, making vital programming available in more places than ever before

Forge strong partnerships with employers who believe in what we do and service agencies that amplify our efforts

Improve our noted integrated service-delivery model, so even clients facing the toughest challenges get all the supports they need

And, as the sector evolves to embrace outcomes-based funding, we’re ready: this has been the PTP standard for over a decade.

A huge thank you to our staff, board, loyal partners and funders who contribute to our many measures of success.

From barriers to breakthroughs

Our clients succeed – even in the face of multiple challenges. From language and learning gaps to chronic poverty, PTP participants are more likely to experience complex problems compared to those enrolled in other provincial programs. We tackle that complexity head on, bringing down barriers – and keeping them down – with long-term employment plans that empower and engage.

Passion begets passion. I see this in the students, clients and staff who come together at PTP to create a rich learning community.

– Lauren, PTP Instructor

I get totally excited when I see our clients achieve. They feel confident, valued and respected. The gains are transformative.

– Shahina, Program Manager

Meeting each learner “where they are” helps us offer meaningful, relevant programming that improves lives.

More of our clients have
long-term work

When people don’t have to worry about keeping a job, they have the freedom to unlock their true potential – to build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities. That’s why sustained employment is the true hallmark of our clients’ success. Happily, the numbers speak to the power of our process: a comparison of our data to provincial data reveals that PTP clients stay in their jobs longer. And yet our goal will always be to do better.

The right supports at the right time

Because no two pathways to employment are the same, we meet people wherever they are in their journey, working together to create strategies for turning the dream of work into a reality. Our integrated service-delivery model takes each client’s unique challenges and aspirations into account for a programming mix that supports the whole person.

Asia arrived at PTP with little formal education and some serious health concerns, but she was eager to find sustained work in food handling or customer service.
In his mid-30s and out of a job for a year, Mark needed help overcoming apprehension and isolation while building new skillsets.
After years without work, Sandra was determined to find a job so she could support her kids in Nigeria. First, she would have to learn how to succeed in a tough Canadian interview process.
Wilfredo’s goal wasn’t sustained work – in fact, he already had a full-time job. What he really wanted was a chance to better his future though higher education.
Steven had big goals, but without a high school diploma he was struggling to realize them. Could PTP and the GED Achievement program make a difference?

Sandra's Outcome

Extensive coaching in interviewing and hiring helped Sandra secure a position at a celebrated Toronto restaurant. She’s been happily working there – and helping her family back home – since April 2019.

Cross-Canada impact

Using the same powerful programming that’s transforming lives in and around Toronto, we’re expanding our reach so that sustained employment is possible for everyone who wants it. We’ve built strong partnerships with community-based agencies from coast to coast to coast who use our methods to close the gap between learning and rewarding work. CAMERA, our proven system for assessing and developing workplace communications and numeracy skills, is making this exciting progress possible.

Results driven,
people focused

We’ve been able to successfully deliver against a rigorous outcomes-based funding model for more than a decade by putting our clients at the heart of our efforts. Their achievements drive us to continually improve what we do and how we do it.

Financials

Our finances are fully integrated with strategy as we expand our revenue model to include pay for performance and outcomes-based funding. In fact, our newest program – GED Achievement – is operated using earned income only. It’s for that reason and more that we’re deeply proud of our strong financial foundation – one that’s made possible by our team’s unshakeable commitment to fiscal responsibility and the exceptional stewardship of our board of directors.
