Program description

Get Started in Canada is an 8-week program for Newcomer Women, with an objective to support them in acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to navigate and participate in the Canadian labour market as well as connecting them with the related programming and resources in the community. Using both in-class and online learning along with employer site visits, participants will gain a combination of workplace essential skills, employability skills and micro-certificates tailored to their needs. The program will provide individual counselling to help them in their goal setting and career transition.

Job description

The Coordinator of GSC program will work closely with the Program Manager as well as the program Facilitator to ensure the delivery of the program meets both participant and program requirements and expectations. The Coordinator will be responsible for the carrying out the following duties and activities:

Marketing and Outreach

  • Coordinating and conducting marketing and outreach activities to community agencies and organizations, as well as other sector partners both online and in-person to support recruitment of suitable participants
  • Responding to day-to-day inquiries, over the phone, email, social media and in person, providing information on GSC, and other PTP programs
  • Collaborating with internal and external programs to build relationships that support cross referrals and client transitions

Intake and Assessments

  • Conducting information sessions, assessments, screening and intake activities, including digital skills assessment virtually and in person.
  • Supporting program manager in the selection of suitable candidates for this specialized program
  • Facilitating program start-up, ensuring steps for implementation are in place and participants have the technology, devices and other supports needed to fully participate on start date
  • Coordinating digital skills orientation workshops prior to program start date as needed
  • Help clients in setting goals, career planning and transitional support through individual counselling
  • Work with Admin staff on learning space arrangements and set up

Program Delivery Support

  • Preparing and leading team meetings
  • Managing program calendar and organizing events, providing ongoing support to GSC team members during program delivery (for example, organizing and arranging for equipment distribution, guest speaker and special events)
  • Working with clients, conducting one-on-one weekly meetings and as required, to ensure successful program completion
  • Coordinating or facilitating connection/s to other service providers who specialize in a variety of supports (e.g., skills training, employment services, shelter, housing, child-care, health, including mental health) for clients who need additional support
  • Supporting the planning of program completion, including organizing with team the graduation event
  • Ensuring all clients complete the program activities in a timely manner
  • Preparing reports as required
  • Using funders case management system e.g. iCARE

Required skills, qualifications and experience:

  • University Degree in related field, or a combination of training and work experience in adult education, training programs or employment services
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within teams and with external partners
  • Demonstrated experience in taking initiative, coordinating and managing a range of activities within and across teams
  • Excellent organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to carry out job duties in a timely manner
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills – critical to this role will be managing issues that arise on site and off site
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a small team setting / critical to this role will be to conduct on going case-conferencing with Manager to ensure program objectives are met
  • Good computer skills, proficient with MS Office applications
