The opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Job Developer / Retention Specialist to support participants in the Fresh Start – Launching Careers in Food and Beverage Manufacturing program. This role is responsible for developing employer partnerships, securing employment opportunities, and providing ongoing retention support to ensure participants achieve long-term success in the workforce.

Key responsibilities

Employer engagement and job development

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employers in the food and beverage manufacturing sector.
  • Conduct employer outreach, networking, meetings, and workplace visits.
  • Identify hiring needs and develop employment opportunities for program participants.
  • Promote the program and its value to employers.
  • Match qualified participants with suitable employment opportunities.

Placement and participant support

  • Coordinate interviews, employer communications, and onboarding activities.
  • Provide interview preparation, job search coaching, and workplace readiness support.
  • Work closely with program staff to ensure participant readiness for employment.

Retention and employment stabilization

  • Provide ongoing post-employment support for up to 12 months after placement.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups with participants and employers.
  • Assist participants in addressing workplace challenges and adapting to workplace expectations.
  • Identify and address issues that may affect job retention.

Career advancement

  • Support participants in pursuing promotions, increased hours, training, and career growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with employers to identify advancement pathways.
  • Encourage long-term attachment to the labour market.

Performance tracking and reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of employer engagement, placements, and employment outcomes.
  • Track retention outcomes at 3-, 6-, and 12-month intervals.
  • Contribute to funder and program reporting requirements.

Continuous improvement

  • Monitor labour market trends and employer needs.
  • Share employer feedback and recommendations to strengthen program outcomes.
  • Support initiatives that improve employment and retention results.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3–5 years of experience in job development, employer engagement, employment services, or workforce development.
  • Proven success in developing employer partnerships and supporting job placements.
  • Experience working with newcomers, refugees, or diverse populations.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and coaching skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholder relationships.

Preferred

  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or food and beverage sectors.
  • Experience providing retention or post-employment support.
  • Knowledge of newcomer workplace integration challenges.
  • Experience using CRM systems and outcome-tracking tools.
