An employer partner that works directly with PTP is seeking an experienced System Administrator to strengthen their infrastructure operations and support business-critical systems.
About the role
The System Administrator will be responsible for the design, administration, monitoring, and support of on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure. This role requires deep expertise in Windows Server environments, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), networking, backups, security, and enterprise IT operations. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of supporting both internal teams and external clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and support Windows Server environments (2003–2019) and Linux systems (CentOS, Ubuntu)
- Manage and maintain virtualization platforms including VMware ESXi, vSphere, vCenter, Hyper-V, and Site Recovery Manager
- Oversee backup and disaster recovery solutions, including Veeam Backup, Windows Backup, and Symantec Veritas
- Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Exchange/Office 365, and Azure services
- Support network infrastructure including LAN/WAN, VPN, firewalls, routing, switching, and secure remote access
- Configure and maintain data storage systems (HP MSA, Synology, EMC/Dell, Cisco HyperFlex, FreeNAS)
- Monitor system performance, availability, and security; respond to incidents and alerts in a timely manner
- Provide Tier 2/3 support for infrastructure-related issues with a high first-call resolution rate
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, and security controls
- Participate in IT planning, design meetings, and implementation of new technologies
- Coordinate with internal teams and external clients to ensure system reliability and uptime
- Support and enforce IT governance, security, and best practices (ITIL / COBIT frameworks)
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in system/server administration or infrastructure roles
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Windows Server & Active Directory
- VMware ESXi / vSphere / vCenter
- Backup & disaster recovery solutions
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, OSI, DNS, DHCP, VPN)
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Certifications (Required / Strong Assets)
- CompTIA A+, Server+
- CCNA
- Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA or equivalent)
- Azure Fundamentals / Azure Administrator
- ITIL v3 (Foundations)
- COBIT 5
