Lead Fleet Mechanic

The Lead Fleet Mechanic performs preventative maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Maintain fleet vehicles with focus on Preventative Maintenance programs to meet compliance standards;
  • Utilize fleet management computer programs to track shop operations;
  • Assist with cost control through inventory management and reviewing third party estimates/invoices on external repairs;
  • Responsible for maintenance of the shop quality requirements, cleanliness, and Occupational Health and Safety standards;
  • Regularly inspect vehicles to ensure compliance with company standards as well as National Safety Code (NSC) standards;
  • Conduct vehicle inspections on Class 1-8 vehicles in accordance with Provincial regulations;
  • Document vehicle repairs and inspections according to company guidelines;
  • Conduct all repairs in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Follow all and any Company workplace conduct requirements and policies;
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of role to support the business.
  • Will Report to Chief Engineer

Requirements

Experience

  • Previous experience in a Fleet Shop environment preferred.

License Requirements/ Certifications

  • Valid 310T Certification
  • Valid Driver’s License

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of NSC standards for commercial vehicles;
  • Knowledge of Provincial and Federal Regulations for commercial fleets;
  • Familiarity/proficiency with Fleet Management Software;
  • Familiarity/proficiency with Parts Management;
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast pace environment;
  • Maintain a collaborative and team-oriented environment in the shop.

Working Environment/Safety Requirements

  • Generally, work will be performed in a dedicated shop bay however road calls and work in a vehicle yard may be required;
  • Occasional exposure to inclement weather may be required;
  • Occasional exposure to Hot Work zones during welding.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel to Depot locations may be required.

Education

  • High School or equivalent

Tools

  • Must provide own tools suitable for repair of Class 3-8 vehicles;
  • Shop tools will be provided.
